Chemnitz is the third-largest city in the Free State of Saxony in southeastern Germany, located about 78 kilometers southwest of Dresden and close to the Czech border.

In the heart of Chemnitz, you'll find well-known attractions and beautiful buildings. For those interested in culture, there are several museums and galleries. The Kassberg district is notable for its 19th-century architectural buildings. Here you will also find the Karl Marx Monument, designed by Lev Kerbel. Other major attractions in Chemnitz include the old and new town halls with their Renaissance portal from the 15th century, the castle that once housed a monastery, the striking opera house, and the old university building. In the Rabenstein district, you can visit Rabenstein Castle, which is also worth seeing. One of the landmarks of Chemnitz is the Red Tower, part of the city wall from the late 12th or early 13th century.

About 60 kilometers south lies the scenic area of Reichenbach, perfect for day trips to enjoy the natural surroundings—a refreshing contrast to city life. In Vogtland, you can also see the world's largest brick-built bridge, the Göltzschtalbrücke. Constructed between 1846 and 1851, this historic railway bridge spans approximately 4 kilometers over the valley and the Göltzsch River between Mylau and Netzschkau, now part of the Leipzig-Hof line near Netzschkau station.
